There are several ways to change your Turnstile invoices. Each one reaches a different set of invoices, depending on whether the change is made for your whole account, one customer, one subscription, or one invoice.
Issued invoices are never changed. To correct an issued invoice, use the void and reissue workflow.
Subscriptions created before October 14, 2026
Some subscriptions created before October 14, 2026 have their own memo, footer, or header fields, copied from the global invoice template when the subscription was created.
This only affects subscriptions created while your global invoice template had a memo, footer, or header set.
Invoices for these subscriptions keep using the copied values for those fields, even if you change the global invoice template or the customer’s invoice template. Draft invoices for these subscriptions show Inherited from this subscription.
These invoices cannot be set to follow the global or customer invoice template. Revert to this subscription brings back the copied values, not the template’s values. To change these values, edit each draft invoice, turn on Overwrite on this invoice, and enter the new value.
Subscriptions created after October 14, 2026 do not store their own values and follow the customer and global invoice templates.
Which change to use
To change approval, issuing, payment collection, or invoice content for all customers: Change your account-wide invoice defaults.
To change what appears on one customer’s invoices (memo, footer, header fields, or ACH instructions): Change the customer’s invoice template.
To change a customer’s billing name, email, or address: Update the customer’s billing information.
To change what a customer is billed (products, pricing, quantities, or contract dates): Amend the subscription.
To change how one subscription’s invoices are approved, issued, or paid: Edit the invoice settings for that subscription.
To fix one draft invoice: Edit the invoice.
To fix one issued invoice: Void and reissue it.
Account-wide invoice defaults
Default invoice settings and the global invoice template are both managed from Settings > Default invoice settings and apply across your account. They reach different invoices when you change them.
Default invoice settings
Default invoice settings control invoice approval, issuing, and payment collection.
Applies to: New subscriptions and new one-off invoices created after the change.
Does not change: Subscriptions that already exist, or their invoices. To apply new settings to existing subscriptions, edit invoice settings for those subscriptions.
Global invoice template
The global invoice template sets the default memo, footer, header fields, and ACH payment instructions.
Applies to: Draft invoices and future invoices for all customers.
Does not change: Issued invoices, customers with their own invoice template for that field, draft invoices edited with Overwrite on this invoice, or memo, footer, and header values stored on some subscriptions created before October 14, 2026.
Customer-level changes
Customer-level changes apply to all of one customer’s invoices, across every subscription and one-off invoice for that customer.
Customer invoice template
A customer invoice template replaces the global invoice template’s memo, footer, header fields, or ACH instructions for one customer.
Applies to: That customer’s draft invoices and future invoices, including one-off invoices.
Does not change: Issued invoices, draft invoices edited with Overwrite on this invoice, or memo, footer, and header values stored on some subscriptions created before October 14, 2026.
Customer billing information
Billing information includes the customer’s company name, billing email, and address. Updates to billing information made on the customer page also sync to Stripe.
Applies to: All draft invoices across that customer’s subscriptions.
Does not change: Issued invoices.
Subscription-level changes
Subscription-level changes apply to the invoices of the subscriptions you change. A customer with more than one subscription can have different settings on each one.
Invoice settings on existing subscriptions
Invoice settings control how a subscription’s invoices are approved, issued, and paid. You can edit them for one customer’s subscriptions from the customer page, or for many subscriptions at once from Settings > Edit invoice settings on existing subscriptions.
Applies to: Upcoming draft invoices for the subscriptions you select.
Does not change: Issued invoices, or subscriptions you did not select.
Subscription amendments
An amendment changes the subscription itself, such as pricing, products, or contract length.
Applies to: Invoices from the amendment effective date onward.
Does not change: Issued invoices.
Single invoice changes
Single invoice changes apply to one invoice only. They do not affect other invoices or the subscription.
Editing a draft invoice
Editing a draft invoice can change its line items, terms, payment collection settings, or content. Overwrite on this invoice replaces the template’s memo, footer, header fields, or ACH instructions on that invoice.
Applies to: That invoice only.
Does not change: Other draft invoices, future invoices, or the subscription.
An invoice edited with Overwrite on this invoice no longer picks up template changes. To follow the template again, click Revert to [template name] on the invoice.
Overwrite on this invoice is also the only way to change memo, footer, and header values stored on some subscriptions created before October 14, 2026. For details, see subscriptions created before October 14, 2026.
Void and reissue
Void and reissue voids an issued invoice and creates a new draft invoice to replace it.
Applies to: The replacement invoice only. Edit it before issuing.
Does not change: The subscription or other invoices.
