Use a customer invoice template to set different memo, footer, header fields, or ACH instructions for one customer

Each customer can have their own invoice template that overrides your global invoice template. Use a customer invoice template when one customer needs a different memo, footer, header fields, or ACH payment instructions, or when a customer should not see ACH instructions at all.

A customer invoice template changes what appears on the invoice, not what the customer is billed. To change products, pricing, or contract dates, amend the subscription.

When changes to a customer's invoice template take effect

Updates to a customer’s invoice template do not affect every invoice the same way.

  • Changes to a customer’s invoice template apply to that customer’s draft invoices and future invoices, including one-off invoices.

  • Draft invoices that were edited with Overwrite on this invoice keep their own values until you click Revert to on the invoice.

  • Issued invoices keep the details they were issued with. If you change your bank details, invoices your customer already received continue to show the details they were sent with.

Note: Some subscriptions created before October 14, 2026 have their own memo, footer, or header fields, copied from the global invoice template when the subscription was created.

Invoices for these subscriptions keep using the original copied values, even if you change the global or customer invoice template. To change them, edit each draft invoice for the subscription and turn on Overwrite on this invoice. ACH instructions are not affected.

Access a customer’s invoice template

Each customer’s invoice template is managed from the customer page.

  1. Go to Customers > All customers and select the customer.

  2. Scroll to the invoices section and select Edit invoice settings.

  3. Click Edit invoice template at the top of the window.

The invoice template for the customer opens. A preview of the invoice on the right updates as you make changes.

Override the invoice memo, footer, and header fields per customer

Use Override vendor values to give one customer different memo, footer, or header fields than your global invoice template.

How Override vendor values works:

  • While Override vendor values is on, a field left blank shows nothing on this customer’s invoices.

  • While Override vendor values is off, the customer’s invoices use your global invoice template.

  • Turning Override vendor values off clears this customer’s memo, footer, and header fields.

  1. Go to Customers > All customers and select the customer.

  2. Scroll to the invoices section and select Edit invoice settings.

  3. Click Edit invoice template at the top of the window.

  4. On the customer’s invoice template, turn on Override vendor values. Your global values are copied in as a starting point.

  5. Update the Memo, Footer, or Header fields. Click Add header field to add a new one.

  6. Click Save changes.

Note: Some subscriptions created before October 14, 2026 keep their own memo, footer, or header fields and do not use this customer’s invoice template for those fields. To change them, edit each draft invoice and turn on Overwrite on this invoice.

Override ACH instructions per customer

Use Override vendor ACH instructions when one customer should pay into a different bank account than the one on your global invoice template.

  1. Go to Customers > All customers and select the customer.

  2. Scroll to the invoices section and select Edit invoice settings.

  3. Click Edit invoice template at the top of the window.

  4. On the customer’s invoice template, turn on Override vendor ACH instructions.

  5. Enter the Bank name, Account name, Routing number, Account number, and Address this customer should use.

  6. Click Save changes.

Hide ACH instructions per customer

If a customer should not see ACH instructions on their invoices, you can hide them for that customer without changing your global invoice template.

  1. Go to Customers > All customers and select the customer.

  2. Scroll to the invoices section and select Edit invoice settings.

  3. Click Edit invoice template at the top of the window.

  4. On the customer’s invoice template, turn on Override vendor ACH instructions.

  5. Leave all of the ACH fields blank.

  6. Click Save changes.

ACH instructions no longer appear on this customer’s invoices.

When ACH instructions appear on an invoice

ACH instructions set on a customer’s invoice template do not appear on invoices collected through Stripe. For the full rules on when ACH instructions appear, including invoice emails, see our article on adding ACH payment instructions to invoices.
