Quoting FAQ

Frequently asked questions about quotes

Creating a quote

Why is the quote sending button disabled?

The button stays disabled until the Quote is complete, which includes:

  • An Opportunity / Deal is selected

  • Products and pricing are added

Hover over the disabled button to see a message about why the quote cannot be sent yet.

How do I change the business entity on a quote?

Click the entity name to the top right of a quote and select your desired entity. If the entity does not exist in the dropdown, you will need to create a new entity by going to Settings > Quoter settings > Billing and clicking the + Create new entity button.

How do I change the currency for my quote?

To change the currency for a quote, click the Select currency (dollar icon) beside the total at the bottom of the product table.

How do I set the subscription duration or contract length?

Above the products and pricing table when creating a quote or subscription, you can set the contract length (duration) in days, weeks, months, or years.

Configuring products, pricing, and quote length

How do I add a product to my quote?

On any draft quote:

  1. Click the + button at the bottom of the product table and select from the list or start typing to search all products or create a new product.

  2. The product will appear as a new line in your quote with configuration options

You can add multiple products if needed—each will appear as a separate line item.

How do I set pricing for a product on a quote?

First, pick your pricing method:

  • Flat Fee: Fixed fee

  • License: Price per unit where quantity is known in advance. Ideal for seats/license type products

  • Usage: Price per unit where quantity is not known in advance (e.g., API calls) with no pre-purchase

  • Committed usage: Price per unit where quantity is not known in advance (e.g., API calls) with pre-purchased units

  • Percentage: Price per percentage of unit

Once your pricing method is chosen, you can set the number of units and/or edit pricing for the product's line item.

Does Turnstile support negative discounting?

A discount in Turnstile can only reduce a total; it cannot increase it. If you need to charge a customer more than the list price (sometimes referred to as deal premium, price premium, markup above list, or negative discount), edit the product price directly at the line-item level on the quote or subscription, rather than using a discount.

Can I hide unit cost or totals on a quote?

Yes. Anywhere on a draft quote you see an eye icon, you can click it to hide this value from the customer-facing quote.

How does billing frequency or cadence work?

The Billing frequency setting on a quote, found below the product table, drives the invoicing schedule. For example, a product may cost $100/month on a 1 year contract. With a billing frequency of Monthly, the customer would receive 12 invoices for $100 each. With a billing frequency of Annual, the customer would receive 1 invoice for $1,200 total.

What is a quote expiration date?

Quote expiration is determined by its Offer valid thru setting. If a quote has not been signed or accepted via checkout prior to the Offer valid thru date, it will become invalid. Turnstile does not allow quotes to be signed after they've expired.

After a quote has expired, you can retract the quote, update the Offer valid thru date, and re-send it.

How do I change the start date on a quote?

At the top of a draft quote, change the Service starts setting to Upon agreement, Custom date, or At a milestone.

Once a quote has been sent, it'll need to be retracted before the service start date can be updated.

Why is my CRM deal not appearing in the quote deal dropdown?

A deal may not appear in the quote deal dropdown if the deal in your CRM is tied to a different customer. A workaround for this issue is creating the quote in Turnstile and choosing + Create new deal from the dropdown. Once you send the quote, you can return to your CRM and reassign the quote to the intended deal.

Sending quotes

Why is the review and send button not clickable?

If the Review and send button is greyed out, the quote may be missing information. Hover over Review and send to discover what details need to be added to the quote.

What options do I have for collecting customer approval/acceptance/signature for a quote?

Turnstile offers two approaches:

  1. Sending a quote for e-signature- Both parties (your customer and you) sign a PDF Quote.

  2. Checkout page (requires an invoicing integration). Your customer completes a checkout page, which can optionally include providing their payment information and paying the first invoice at the time of quote acceptance.

How do I choose who signs the quote?

To select a signer other than the default for an individual quote, click the signature name at the bottom of the draft quote and choose from the list of saved signers or create a new signer.

How do I know the quote was sent successfully?

When opening a sent quote, you'll see a Sent status at the top left.

You may also review the quote signing history using the Event history tab at the top right of the quote.

Can I resend a quote for signature?

Yes. To resend an unsigned quote, open the quote, click the three-dot menu to the top right, and select Resend customer email.

What status does a quote show while it’s waiting for signature?

A quote that hasn't been signed by both parties carries a status of Sent. You'll also see the signature progress for each signer represented as Pending signature or Signed.

How do I choose who signs the quote when using checkout page as the acceptance method?

You cannot select signers when using checkout page as the acceptance method. If your quote needs to be signed, you must choose e-signature as the acceptance method.

How do I know the checkout page was published successfully?

The quote status will be updated to Sent. You can also open the published quote, click the three-dot icon to the top right, and Copy checkout link to preview the checkout page your customer will see.

Can I make edits after publishing a checkout?

Yes. If a checkout page hasn't been completed yet, you can open the quote, click the three-dot menu to the top right, and select Retract quote to make edits.

After a quote is retracted, it is in a Draft state; you may edit the quote, and your customer is blocked from checking out. When the updated quote is re-published for checkout, the prior checkout link remains valid to ease your customer's signing process.

Can I cc someone on a quote email?

It is not possible to cc additional contacts in quote emails. If you would like to include others, choose the Share link quote delivery method. This will allow you to copy a link to the quote that can be sent to anyone who needs it.

What is the email address that sends quotes?

When you select Send email as your quote delivery method, the email will be sent from no-reply@tryturnstile.com and have the user's email CC'd so they will be notified if the e-signer responds.

Can I change the email address the quote is sent from?

No. It is not possible to change the email address a Turnstile quote email is sent from. If you would like to send your quote from a different email, choose Share link as your quote delivery method and then send the link to your customer from your preferred email.

Which email address sends test emails?

Test emails are sent from no-reply@tryturnstile.com

Why can my customer not access the sent quote?

If your customer cannot access the quote, the Offer valid thru date may have passed. If so, you will need to retract the quote and extend the Offer valid thru date, then review and send the quote again.

Invoice preview on the quote and custom invoice schedule

How do I preview the invoices my customer will receive?

Click the View invoice schedule button at the top right of a draft quote or the Preview invoices button at the bottom of the draft quote.

How do I create a custom invoice schedule for a quote?

  1. Click Preview invoices next to Billing frequency at the bottom of a draft quote.

  2. Click the slider icon in the invoice settings panel to open the customize invoice schedule window.

  3. Adjust the invoice send dates.

After quotes are approved

What happens after my quote is signed or checkout is complete?

Once your quote is signed by both parties or your customer completes the checkout page, it becomes a subscription.

Can I upload a signed quote to a customer's record in Turnstile if it was signed outside of the platform?
