There are two ways to collect tax on invoices in Turnstile: automatic tax collection through Stripe or Anrok, or manually adding a tax line to an individual invoice before it is issued.
Automatic tax collection with Stripe
Automatic tax collection through Stripe requires all of the following to be in place:
Stripe must be set as the invoice provider using Stripe Billing (legacy) for the subscription (not only Stripe as a payment processor). You can confirm this in your invoice settings.
Automatic tax collection must be enabled on the linked Stripe account.
A default product tax code must be set on the Stripe account.
Toggle on Enable Stripe tax calculation for the connected Stripe account from Settings > Integrations > Stripe.
Automatic tax collection with Anrok
The Anrok integration calculates sales tax, VAT (value-added tax), and GST (goods and services tax) automatically, based on each product's tax category, the customer's billing address, and the invoice date, and records the transaction in your Anrok account. To connect Anrok, go to Settings > Integrations, select Configure next to Anrok, and follow the prompts. For full setup and mapping details, see our Anrok integration article.
Manual tax collection
You can manually add a tax line to any individual draft invoice before it is issued. Open the invoice and use the edit invoice workflow to add a tax line item.
A Stripe integration is not required to add a tax line manually.
